Tumors of the spinal cord and spinal canal

Even within the spinal canal different tumors can occur. These can either grow outside the spinal cord, such as e.g. meningioma or neuromas, or grow within the spinal cord such as ependymomas or astrocytomas. Depending on the location and size, they can cause various symptoms. In some cases, however, they are also discovered by chance. Treatment is usually surgical removal to prevent recurrence or progression of neurological defects and to obtain tissue for histological examination. Depending on the type of tumor, post-treatment can be necessary with radiation and / or chemotherapy postoperatively.
