Endoscopic operation techniques

In the field of medical technology, the Homburger Department of Neurosurgery is engaged in the development of new endoscopic procedures.

Together with the company Karl Storz, from Tuttlingen, an endoscopic system (Easy-GO!®, now already the 2nd generation is available) has been developed, designed especially for minimally invasive spinal surgery. With this system it is possible to operate herniated discs and spinal stenosis.

The incision in this case has a length of about 1.4-1.8 cm. Through a dilation system the dorsal musculature of the cervical and lumbar spine can be gently removed, to use the same access path that is chosen in microsurgical standard technique as well. The benefits for the patient with this method can be less postoperative pain, shorter hospital stays, reduced use of pain medication and a smaller scar.
