2. Do I have to stop the use of medication?

It is important that during the operation, the blood coagulation is intact. For this reason, blood thinning drugs should be stopped or changed in time. Usually you should stop taking  aspirin 5 days before the hospitalization and warfarin should be changed by the practitioner to heparin subcutaneously (abdominal syringe). Since the increase in coagulation tests is individual, before hospitalization a blood test with determination of the Quick value should be performed.

3. What Parkinson medication may be taken until the surgery?

In order to assess the stimulation during the procedure correctly it is essential that the intraoperative stimulation is not distorted by Parkinson drugs. The L-dopa preparations can be taken generally for a shorter duration of the longest. The patient is informed about the correct medication in advance by our neurological team prior to surgery.
