What is the difference between a diffuse and a nodular enlargement of the thyroid gland (goiter)?
The determination of the size, location and structure of the thyroid gland is made by clinical examination and ultrasound. If the thyroid gland is evenly enlarged, then it is called a diffuse goiter. If nodules formed within the thyroid gland, then we speak of a nodular goiter.
