What are the symptoms of a hyper- or hypofunction of the thyroid?

Usually large goiters, inflammations or masses of the thyroid gland cause discomfort, due to a feeling of pressure or narrowing of the trachea with shortness of breath. If too much or too little thyroid hormone is produced, the corresponding complaints of

a hyper-function = hyperthyroidism (too much thyroid hormone) with the symptoms of tachycardia, arrhythmia, restlessness, nervousness, sweating, diarrhea, weight loss with increased appetite and hair loss, limited fertility or hypo-function = hypothyroidism (too little thyroid hormone), which manifests itself in the symptoms of fatigue, depression, decreased performance, weight gain with reduced appetite, chills, hair loss and in some patients also problems with fertility.
