What are the possible side effects of radioiodine therapy for thyroid cancer?
The side effect rate of radioiodine therapy is low. A feeling of tension in the neck is possible in individual cases which may start after one to three days following radioiodine treatment, which is a slight inflammatory reaction in the neck as well as a slight nausea (gastritis). In case of multiple treatments, dry mouth can occur, which is why the necessary high-dose therapies are carried out under conditions of salivary gland protection. The probability of developing a second tumor as a result of radioiodine therapy is very low.
