How is thyroid cancer treated?

How is thyroid cancer treated?

Following surgery with almost complete removal of the thyroid gland and the neighboring lymph nodes of the neck, a radioactive iodine treatment is required for iodine-storing thyroid carcinomas. The diagnosis and treatment of thyroid carcinomas requires optimal cooperation between the family doctors, nuclear physicians, surgeons, internists, ENT doctors, pediatricians, pathologists and sometimes also radiation therapists, orthopedists, neurosurgeons and geneticists. In order to achieve the best possible results, the clarification, therapy planning and postoperative care must be carried out in a nuclear medicine department specialized in thyroid disease.
