About us
History
The Experimental Ophthalmology group (XO) at the University of Saarland (UdS) was founded on September 1st 2009 by Professor Dr. Achim Langenbucher emerging from the Medical Optics group at the Institute of Medical Physics (IMP) at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, which he headed from 2005 to 2009. Before leading the Medical Optics group he worked as senior scientist at the University Eye Hospital in Erlangen, where he acquired his PhD degree in 2000 and lateron his venia legendi under the guidance of his mentor Prof. Dr. med. Dr. h.c. mult. Gottfried O.H. Naumann. During this time he already collaborated with Prof. Dr. med. Berthold Seitz, the head of the Ophthalmology department and the Eye Hostpital at the UdS, and published numerous scientific papers in the field of ophthalmology. In 2004 he was appointed as Assistant Professor to head the Medical Optics group ath the Institute of Medical Physics, following in 2006 Prof. Seitz was appointed as to the chair of ophthalmology at the UdS. In September 2009, Prof. Langenbucher was appointed to the newly founded chair of Experimental Ophthalmology at the UdS.
