Diagnosis

For an accurate diagnosis, the neurological examination and imaging (e.g. MRI) are important. These images can also be used during surgery for neuronavigation to localize accurately the tumor and surrounding brain structures. Depending on the exact location further tests may be needed, such as audiometric testing for tumors that are located near the auditory nerve (vestibulocochlear nerve).

Preoperative MRI image axial T1 weighted, with contrast agent of patient with metastasis in the cerebellum (left). In this case, specific sequences were produced, which are used for intraoperative neuronavigation (top and bottom right).
