Bereits der etymologische Ursprung der Medizin als Heilkunst (ars medica) verweist auf die Durchlässigkeit der Grenzen zwischen Literatur und Medizin – zwei Bereiche, die einander aber nach wie vor gerne, vor allem auch im wissenschaftlichen Diskurs, als ‚Zwei Kulturen‘ im Sinne Charles Percy Snows kompetitiv gegenüber gestellt werden. Gerade Persönlichkeiten wie Georges Duhamel, Louis-Ferdinand Céline und Jacques Ferron sowie, in jüngerer Zeit, Sergio Kokis, Malika Mokkedem, die französische Goncourt-Preisträgerin Lydie Salvayre sowie das Mitglied der Académie française Jean-Christophe Rufin stellen eine solche dichotomische Gegenüberstellung in Frage, sind sie doch ‚Wanderer‘ zwischen Literatur und Medizin, die, bisweilen oder dauerhaft, ihr ärztliches Instrumentarium gegen die die Schreibfeder eingetauscht haben.

Um die komplexen Wechselbeziehungen zwischen Literatur und Medizin zu erhellen und zu einem transdisziplinären Dialog zu ermuntern, möchte die Tagung, die neben Literaturwissenschaftler_innen auch Schriftstellerärzt_innen und Mediziner_innen zu Wort kommen lässt, gerade diese ‚Doppelagent_innen‘ im Dienste von Literatur und Medizin in den Blick nehmen. Im Mittelpunkt des Interesses stehen Autor_innen aus Frankreich und anderen frankophonen Räumen, die zumindest über eine begonnene oder abgeschlossene medizinische Ausbildung verfügen, idealiter aber auch als Ärzt_innen oder Therapeut_innen praktizieren oder praktiziert haben und deren literarische Tätigkeit im 20. und 21. Jahrhundert angesiedelt ist – dem Zeitpunkt der verstärkten Präsenz von Schriftstellerärzt_innen sowie ihrer institutionellen Organisation in Vereinigungen wie dem 1949 gegründeten Groupement des Écrivains Médecins (GEM), der alljährlich den Prix Littré vergibt, oder der 1968 ins Leben gerufenen Union Mondiale des Écrivains médecins (UMEM).

Anstatt bei einer bloßen enzyklopädischen, bio-bibliographische Bestandsaufnahme der Autor_innen zu verweilen, möchte die Tagung vor allem die auf verschiedenen Ebenen stattfindenden Kontaktphänomene zwischen literarischem und medizinischem Diskurs ausleuchten. Zu diesem Zweck widmet sie sich vor allem folgenden Themenfeldern: Motivationen: Was sind mögliche Triebfedern für den Wechsel zwischen ‚Skalpell‘ und Schreibfeder? Transfers: Welche medizinischen Wissensbestände eignet sich die Literatur an und zu welchem Zweck geschieht eine solche selektive, produktive, bisweilen auch ‚deformierende‘ Aneignung? Kontaminationen: Inwiefern ‚stecken‘ sich literarische und medizinische Schreibweise ‚an’ und welche ästhetischen Strategien werden zur Fiktionalisierung medizinischen Wissens benutzt? Interkulturelle Konfrontationen: Inwiefern kann die Literatur, gerade wenn sie auf außereuropäische Medizintraditionen Bezug nimmt, zum ‚Seziertisch‘ und zum Ort heilsamer Anamnese für Medizinsysteme werden?

01/2013:

Mrs. Caroline Mouton from the Sports Medicine Research Laboratory of the Centre de Recherche Public - Santé, Luxembourg, is the first recipient of the Orthopaedic Research Travel Grant by the Cartilage Net. This grant is sponsored by the Dept. of Orthopaedic Surgery of the Centre Hospitalier Luxembourg (Priv. Doz. Dietrich Pape, Prof. Romain Seil, Dr. Nicolien van Giffen). The selection criteria were based on excellence in research and publications as well as mobility in the Greater Region. The grant is given to a young (< 30 years) collaborator of one of the participating centers to visit one of the major international congresses in clinical and / or basic science orthopaedic research (Orthopaedic Research Society, ESSKA, ...).
