The Transplantation Society
Webinar, 11.2.2011, 18.00 Uhr

Vortrag M. Sester:
Management of TB in Donors/Recipients

zur Anmeldung

Management of tuberculosis in donors/recipients
Although tuberculosis post transplantation is considerably rare, its morbidity and mortality is rather high. This emphasizes the need for an early identification of patients at risk. This webinar will give an overview on the incidence of tuberculosis among transplant candidates and recipients in relation to pathogen prevalence, on tuberculosis management, and on tools to diagnose latent and active disease and its limitations in immunocompromised patients.

Prof. Martina Sester, PhD, is the head of the Department of Transplant and Infection Immunology at the Medical Faculty of Saarland University. Her research interests comprise the role of cellular immunity in the control of clinically relevant pathogens with a particular focus on how this knowledge may translate into improved diagnosis of infectious complications. She has an ongoing research interest in immunology and diagnosis of M. tuberculosis infection in the immunocompromised host.
