PhD student position, HERV transcription, bioinformatics

 

We are seeking a highly motivated SCIENTIFIC ASSISTANT to investigate in a DFG-funded research project transcriptional activity of human endogenous retroviruses in the clinical context. In the course of ongoing wet-lab work, the successful applicant will primarily develop and apply bioinformatics tools for analyzing HERV-specific sequence data generated by next-generation sequencing and other techniques, and available in databases. Applicants must be able to demonstrate knowledge in genome and transcriptome analysis methods. Expertise in endogenous retroviruses and/or other repetitive elements will be an advantage.

We expect a high degree of self-motivation, interest in scientific work, and team spirit. The selected candidate will join an established research group on repetitive elements at the Department of Human Genetics, Medical Faculty, University of Saarland, that closely collaborates with the Center for Bioinformatics at the university campus in Saarbrücken. Candidates must hold a Diploma or Master's degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, or a closely related field. Funding will be available for three years. Following faculty guidelines, a PhD title may be awarded towards the end of the research project.

 

Employment will be in accordance with TV-L. Salary level will accord with TV-L E13(50%).
